Copper Marans
Dark-brown eggs • Blue, black & splash varieties
Our BBS Copper Marans are a beautiful variety of Marans known for their exceptionally dark brown eggs and distinctive copper colouring. Our breeding group includes blue, black and splash birds, creating a beautiful range of plumage colours while maintaining the characteristic copper markings of the variety. At Roslin Poultry Ranch, we select for strong egg colour, healthy birds, good temperament and overall quality.
About Copper Marans
Marans originated in the Marans region of France and are best known for their distinctive dark brown eggs. The breed became particularly valued for the depth of its egg colour, with eggs ranging from rich brown to very dark chocolate shades. Copper Marans are recognized by their copper-coloured hackles and contrasting darker plumage, with the Blue, Black and Splash varieties offering different feather colourations within the variety. As a heritage breed, hens typically lay approximately 150–200 eggs per year, although production varies depending on genetics, age, variety, daylight and management.
Our Copper Marans Breeding Program
New for 2027, we have added a French Blue Copper Marans rooster to our breeding program. His parents were carefully selected with the Standard of Perfection (SOP) in mind, making him a thoughtfully chosen foundation bird as we continue developing our Copper Marans line.
