About Lavender Cochins
Cochins are a heritage breed that originated in China and became popular in Europe and North America during the 19th century. They are known for their abundant soft feathering, feathered legs and gentle, calm temperament. Lavender is a colour variety of the Cochin breed, recognized for its soft blue-grey plumage with a subtle lavender appearance.
Cochins are considered more of an ornamental and exhibition breed than a high-production laying breed. Hens typically produce approximately 120–160 eggs per year, with egg production varying depending on genetics, age, daylight and management. They are valued for their distinctive appearance, gentle nature and calm temperament rather than for producing large numbers of eggs.
Our Lavender Cochin line is naturally friendly and has consistently shown a gentle, docile temperament. If you're looking for a chicken that enjoys human interaction and is naturally tame with regular handling, this line can be an excellent choice. Their calm nature makes them especially appealing for family flocks, particularly for families who want chickens that are enjoyable to interact with and handle.
If your priority is high egg production, a Cochin may not be the best fit. Cochins are better suited to those looking for a gentle, ornamental breed with a beautiful, distinctive appearance and a calm personality.
