A good approach is to transition your flock during a moderate weather period and monitor closely for the first 24–72 hours to confirm all birds are drinking properly.

Providing multiple clean water options helps ensure every bird stays properly hydrated.

A simple way to help keep drinking water cooler on hot days is to freeze clean plastic water bottles and place them inside your bucket-style nipple drinkers or open water containers. As the ice slowly melts, it helps lower the water temperature and encourages birds to continue drinking throughout the day. We routinely use this method at the ranch during heat waves to keep our flocks comfortable.

In winter, continue checking your waterers regularly to ensure they have not frozen and are functioning correctly. Regardless of the season or the type of waterer you use, access to clean, fresh water should always be a top priority for maintaining a healthy flock.
