The Whiting True Blue (WTB) was developed by Dr. Tom Whiting, who originally bred these chickens for their feathers, ideal for fly fishing.
While they may take a little longer to warm up to humans compared to some other breeds, their freedom-loving and self-sufficient nature makes them excellent for yards where chickens are allowed to roam and care for themselves with minimal supervision.
The Whiting True Blue is a popular choice for backyard chicken owners seeking a beautiful and productive hen. They are well known for their stunning blue eggs, a unique and eye-catching addition to any egg basket.
In addition to their striking appearance and pleasant, calm demeanor, WTBs are excellent layers, producing around 300 eggs per year. They typically start laying early, reaching maturity around 20 weeks, and come in a variety of feather colors.
